Our Howling Fun Time at Great Wolf Lodge-Atlanta
What do we do when our camping plans get rained out??
We head to the Great Wolf Lodge for a weekend of indoor fun!
It was a last minute decision, but we were able to find a good deal. We really couldn’t pass it up! The kids had been asking to go ever since they saw a commercial on TV, so we kept the trip a surprise. Their faces were priceless when we pulled into the parking lot and Bubs read the sign!
Thanks to awesome customer service and thoughtfulness, I received a text the morning of our check in date as we were driving down to the resort. Through that text I was able to check in and receive a confirmation that all I need to do was grab our room keys/writsbands at the front desk upon arrival. It took Troy 2 minutes to grab them from the clerk, and we were good to go. So easy!!
After unloading our stuff, we waited for Dad to park the car, and we explored the main entrance lobby.
Being as our visit was in the month of October, they had the place decked out in Halloween decor while still keeping with the Great Wolf Lodge theme of outdoors, wildlife, and of course wolves! The kids were given fuzzy orange wolf ears to join in on the festivities, too. We were officially ready for Howl-o-ween!
We made our way upstairs and dropped off our things in our room. Our room was huge! We had two queen beds and a full size pullout, a table area, bathroom with tub, shower and toilet, a sink area, and storage for clothing and shoes. Everything continued with the outdoors/wildlife theme, and the kids said it was the coolest hotel room ever!
After a quick change into our swimming suits, we left our room and made our way to the water park! I thought the kids were going to pass out from excitement, haha!
Complete with a playground, splash pad, slides, wave pool, lazy river, and multiple inner tube slide rides, this place was amazing! All of it was inside, which was perfect, being as it rained the entire time we were visiting.
After spending the entire afternoon swimming, howling, and sliding, we changed back in our room then went to find some dinner. The kids wanted pizza and their wishes came true! Giant slices of pepperoni pizza topped off with ice cold chocolate milk from Hungry as a Wolf.
One of the coolest things about Great Wolf Lodge is everything is located inside the resort! Multiple restaurants and food options, shopping, activities, the waterpark, and more. You never have to leave while you’re there, and we never did until check out!
Troy and I went for the steak tacos from Timber Tacos “food truck.”
They were so good I didn’t get a picture… oops 😉
After filling our bellies, the kids were able to fill their trick or treat bags!
They were given a treasure map to follow to each candy station, where an employee waited to pour giant handfuls into their bags. Had I thought about it, we would have packed our costumes (there were lots of kids dressed up), but it didn’t matter!
If you thought the fun for the day ended there, you are mistaken!
Not only does this resort have a water park, but they also have a ropes course, a rock climbing wall, an arcade, multiple shopping venues for souviners, a bowling alley, and MagiQuest.
Bubs decided he wanted to do the ropes course, and Troy ended up going with him!
It was two stories of different obstacles they had to accomplish while hooked into a harness. They did great! I have to admit I was a little jealous, but Little Miss was too small to participate so we hung out and cheered on the boys.
Being as Little Miss couldn’t do the ropes course, we girls decided to hit the shops! It wasn’t long before she spied her next best friend to add to her ever growing collection!
Before heading to our room for the night, the kids participated in the nightly dance party and story time, hosted by members of the staff. They stuck with the Halloween theme, and the kids had a great time. As parents, we had a great time watching the dances moves our kids pulled out!
Day 2, also our last day, we woke up, ate breakfast (cold cereal brought from home), got our suits on and went straight to the waterpark as soon as it opened at 9am. We spent a good 4 hours swimming and sliding again.
Before leaving the resort, we changed clothes and made sure to get ice cream from Ben & Jerry’s.
It’s not a vacation without ice cream!
I just want to add a GIANT tip for when you visit Great Wolf Lodge!!
Tip: Only book for a one night stay!
One night? Yep, that’s right! Here’s why…
- When you stay at the Great Wolf Lodge, you can get into the resort/waterpark at 1pm the day of check in, even if your room is not yet ready. There are changing rooms and lockers to store your things until you hit your room.
- You also get to stay in the resort/waterpark until close (which is usually 9pm) the day of check out, even if you have to be out of your room by 11am, normal check out time. Use the changing rooms and lockers to store your stuff again.
- This saves you a lot more money, but you still have lots of time for tons of fun!!
We were able to swim our hearts out, plus we had lots of time to do everything else we wanted to do throughout the resort. It was the perfect amount of time for our stay, and we all left exhausted and satisfied!
It was a HOWLING good time!
So, if you ever get the chance to visit a Great Wolf Lodge resort, we HIGHLY recommend it!
