Happy Cow Creamery- A Delicious Pit-Stop
While on a little, day-long road trip, we happened upon this adorable and delicious creamery. In Pelzer, SC you’ll find this quaint store with their happy cows. Family owned and operated, Happy Cow Creamery store was first opened around 2002, but Tom Trantham had been farming the land and raising cows since 1968. In 1987, he discovered a grazing program for his cows that has now been internationally recognized and awarded. He now only uses organic matter to nourish the soil to grow the pastures his cows graze in, which means stronger, healthier, and happier cows.
We were able to see the cows up close and the kids loved it! Little Miss wanted to talk to the “moo moos” all day and was sad when we left.
Trantham also uses a different technique for his pasteurization which doesn’t break the enzymes down and doesn’t add artificial hormones or additives like some producers. They claim that some people that haven’t been able to drink milk for some time, have been able to drink and eat their products because of this technique! Very cool!
They sell products such as cheese, milk (in a variety of flavors), buttermilk, butter, jellies and jams, maple syrup, honey, eggs, ice cream and much more! We bought some ice cream in pint size cartons, and it was probably the creamiest, yummiest, real ice cream I’ve had in quite awhile. We tried the cookie dough and blueberry cheesecake flavors and they hit the spot! I think the blueberry cheesecake was the winner between the two in our family, though.
Action shot! The Hubs will be so pleased with my picture choice ha!
We were there on a gray, Wednesday afternoon, but the place was still busy! There were probably 10 cars in the little parking area by the time we pulled out. We heard that on weekends the place is packed, with a line out the door!! But, it’s no surprise, because the ice cream was delicious, which means their other products must be delicious too, and if we had brought a cooler we would have probably bought more.
